Have You Heard of North Sydney, NS?

April 6, 2016

Last year we posted about spelling and grammar and the importance of checking proofs for error. Those were just on a small scale. What happens if your error makes the news?

Today we have to be so careful. Social media, email, text message and even YouTube. Our mistakes can be streak like wildfire. What’s worse, there is always someone just waiting for those mistakes. I’ll admit, I’m guilty of it to, it’s amusing. It’s easy to laugh at someone else's mistake but with that, it’s become hard to see our own.

Signs are a semi-permanent fixture, they can be changed or removed, but what happens if that sign goes up and no one notices that absolutely huge fumble, the letter switch.

Just two letters switched can make all the difference, as North Sydney residents are finding out. Let’s be honest. Who, before this story, had actually heard of North Sydney, NS? I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who hadn’t. This town, although quaint I’m sure, is known for making an abbreviation mistake. That is now their claim to fame.

You’re probably wondering what my point is. I have one, I promise, I’m not just ranting. We, Airmaster Signs, send our proofs for a very good reason and you would be surprised how many people don’t actually take those few minutes to just double check. Mistakes happen, we all know that, but they can more often than not, be avoided.

So next time you get that proof in the mail or over the fax machine or even through the mail, just stop for one minute and read it over carefully. Let’s do it right, the first time.
